MO

Mo is a portrait of my horse, Smokey Dehere.

We have been together for more than a decade now. There have been extraordinary highs and difficult lows, but most of our life together has happened somewhere in between. In the ordinary accumulation of rides, greetings, adventures and simply being together.

Mo has made me a better human. Horses have a way of asking us to become more present, more aware, more honest, more empowered. With him, I have learned again and again that the real joy is not in what we accomplish, but in the connection itself.

The gesture in this sculpture is one I know intimately. It is how he greets me. He stretches that long neck toward me, reaching for a kiss and, inevitably, a treat. Every time.
