FEATHERS

I adore finding feathers on my daily walks. They always feel like small gifts, something left in my path to be noticed.

What fascinates me most is the architecture of a single feather. There is an elegant perfection to its construction, at once incredibly delicate and remarkably precise. Every curve, taper and filament exists in relationship to air, an invisible force made apparent through form.

I am also drawn to the ancient Egyptian image of the heart being weighed against the feather of Ma'at, a measure of truth, balance and rightness. There is something beautiful to me in the idea of moving through life with a heart that light.

Translating a feather into bronze creates a paradox I love. Something nearly weightless becomes weight and permanence, while still carrying the memory of air.
