HEROES & HORSES

Heroes & Horses was created to benefit the Montana-based organization Heroes and Horses, whose work with combat veterans explores the relationship between challenge, self-reliance and healing.

The sculpture reflects the connection between human and horse. The handprint marks that point of contact, the place where the two meet.

Because Heroes and Horses originally worked with wild mustangs, I gave the horse a brand bearing the year the organization was founded. Their own brand appears on the base.

KNOW THYSELF is inscribed into the base, a phrase central to the philosophy of Heroes and Horses.

The edition of 41 honors the 41 days of the Heroes and Horses program.

Proceeds from the sculpture support Heroes and Horses.
