PAINTINGS

A new body of work is taking form.

My paintings grow from a fascination with surface and the way it can hold history. I work in layers of encaustic, cold wax medium, oil paint, inks, oil pastels and other materials, building depth, translucency and texture.

Much of this comes from my experience with patina in sculpture, where a surface develops slowly through successive layers of color and chemistry. I am drawn to that same process here, allowing each layer to obscure, reveal and respond to what came before.

Painting gives me a different way to explore something that has interested me: how a surface can carry the memory of its making.
