PRESENCE
Presence began as a portrait of my horse, Mo, and a whippet, Benson. I was interested in the quiet awareness between them, the way attention can pass between animals.
The title speaks to something deeper for me: the experience of being fully conscious in the present moment. The gravity of being here now, rather than allowing the mind to continually pull us into the past or the future.
I have returned to the composition and added my whippet Bijou, Benson’s sister. Sitting with one paw raised, her gesture brings a more focused energy to the exchange. Despite her small scale, she adds weight to the space beneath Mo and intensifies the connection between the three.
The sculpture has evolved, but the idea at its center remains the same: attention itself, and what becomes possible when we are fully present.
